Permanent, full-time position to commence September 1, 2020

If you’re an experienced Psychologist with a commitment to best practices in school and clinical psychology, prepare to take the next step in your professional career – and support student achievement and well-being – as part of the Peel District School Board (PDSB).

Reporting to the Superintendent of Special Education Support Services, through the Coordinating Principal (Professional Student Services Personnel, Equity and Anti-Oppression Practices), you’ll provide leadership and direction to Social Workers and co-manage a team of Social Work staff. This will include providing day-to-day supervision, coaching, counselling and guidance, and developing and implementing quality service initiatives. As part of the multi-disciplinary team, you’ll plan and implement social work services for students in accordance with the PDSB’s Plan for Student Success 2016-2021 and Special Education Delivery Model. Developing, implementing and supporting this Model will be an integral part of your role.

As Manager of Social Work, you’ll support clinical supervision and evaluation of staff, including maintenance of competency and quality improvement, case management and coordination of service delivery. Your managerial duties will also entail participating in recruitment/hiring and administrative processes such as documentation, professional learning, and College requirements, providing leadership in new staff orientation, mentoring and supervision, and liaising with university MSW field instructor advisors to coordinate student placements within the Special Education Support Services Department.

A collaborative decision-maker, you’ll consult with Superintendents and school Administrators regarding complex, sensitive and wide-ranging issues related to case management, child protection, crisis intervention and legal matters, liaise with community agencies, consult with internal Board departments and committees, and contribute to the Department leadership team. Our Board will also count on you to support student achievement and well-being by developing new, and supporting existing, policies and procedures aligned with professional practice standards and best practices in the delivery of social work services to schools.

This is a 10-month position, September 1 to June 30, with ten (10) days on-call in July and August.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

With a Master of Social Work degree, registration in the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), and at least five (5) years of broad-ranging experience related to clinical Social Work practice, assessment and treatment, including previous experience working in an educational setting, you’re well prepared to assume this leadership role. As Manager of Social Work, you’ll also call upon your:

• Experience in a supervisory role (preferred).

• Comprehensive knowledge of current research and evidence-based practices in the field of social work and student well-being.

• Knowledge of collective agreements, school board policies and procedures, and applicable regulations and legislation.

• Excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.

• Demonstrated experience as a community liaison.
