Education and Development

As a national voice for social work, the Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW) actively supports social workers in their individual and collective efforts in continuing education and professional development.  In this regard, CASW provides opportunities through scholarships and awards for social workers to pursue opportunities to enhance their social work practice.

In terms of social work education in Canada, the Canadian Association for Social Work Education (CASWE) is the national non-governmental organization of education institutions and associated individuals whose purpose is to advance the standards, effectiveness and relevance of social work education and scholarship in Canada.

In support of social workers developing and building an ethical practice, CASW adopted a Code of Ethics (2005) and published Guidelines for Ethical Practice to serve as a companion document to the Code. The Guidelines for Ethical Practice will be revisited by CASW on an ongoing basis to support social workers with the new and emerging trends in social work practice today.
