Position Description

Title: ABSW Sexual Violence Prevention and Supports Community Mobilization Program Coordinator
Job Type: Full-time for a Five Year Term
Location: 1018 Main St. Dartmouth
Hours of Work Per Week: 35 hours per week (This position may require flexibility to work some evenings & weekends as necessary).
The Organization:
The Association of Black Social Workers is a volunteer charitable organization consisting of Black Social Workers and Social Service Workers throughout the province, whose objective is to provide courses, seminars, and workshops about social work-related projects and programs geared towards persons of African descent. The ABSW also offers services such as counselling and advocacy to individuals as well as the community. The ABSW seeks to educate the public through conferences and workshops on matters affecting the Black family and community throughout the province.
The Position:
Under the direction of ABSW Executive, or designate, the SVPS Community Mobilization
Program Coordinator has the responsibility for ensuring that: citizens are more knowledgeable, skilled, connected and engaged on the issue of sexual violence; communities have a better
understanding of sexual-violence related trauma; there is increased public awareness of available services, supports, resources and tools for preventing and responding to sexual violence; there is increased public awareness of sexual violence and its impact, including dispelling myths and stereotypes and there is an improved ability of community members and service providers to respond to disclosures in a trauma-informed and culturally specific way.
In This Role You Must Have:
● Masters of Social Work preferred, but will consider undergraduate social work education with experience in the field and/or equivalency
● Project Management and/or Community Engagement experience
● Experience in group facilitation and public education;
● Willingness to work flexible hours and travel throughout Nova Scotia;
● Complete and clear criminal records, Child Abuse Registry and vulnerable sector check certificate prior to start date;
● Current and valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License;
● Access to a reliable vehicle.
Position Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will be required to provide a Criminal Records Check and Child Abuse Registry Check.
Closing Date: October 2nd , 2020.
Salary Range: $62,000- $68,000
