Recipient Bio: 

Heather Lamb lives in Prince George BC, dedicating personal and professional time to fighting for a more accessible society for people with disabilities. Heather has personal and family experience with disability, fuelling her passion for addressing ableism in society. 

Heather has worked for Spinal Cord Injury BC since completing her MSW in 2013. In addition to providing case management and counselling services to individuals with spinal cord injury or related disabilities, she addresses systemic inequalities through a variety of advocacy efforts.  

Heather volunteers with local non profits and was a member of her community’s accessibility committee for many years. She has trained community members in disability awareness and worked with venues to improve accessibility prior to major events.

Heather has been a Branch Representative for the Northern Branch of BCASW. She is currently a mentor and the editor of the BCASW provincial newsmagazine, Perspectives, for which she solicits articles, liaises with authors, and edits submissions. In 2016, Heather won the Bridget Moran Advancement of Social Work Award for her advocacy work and was named to Prince George’s Top 40 Under 40. 

In addition to her MSW, Heather holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Canadian History and has worked in England and Mexico.
