Throughout her long and distinguished career, Kathy Jones has advanced the profession of social work, and the continuing education, supportive supervision, and betterment of staff she has supervised and managed. Kathy holds a Master’s degree in social work from Wilfrid Laurier University. Her public service career has seen her work in different roles, as a social worker, family court mediator, and as a senior director in the health, social services, and child protection sectors, and more recently as the provincial Director of Public Health, Women’s Wellness and Children’s Developmental Services. Kathy has also provided leadership at the national level for social work practice and has been published twice on Social Work ethics.
Kathy retired from the PEI Public Service in 2017 after over 32 years and was thrilled to have "returned to her roots" as both a practicing clinician and social work administrator with PEI’s sole remaining non-profit counselling agency, Family Service PEI. Kathy’s years of leadership at Family Service PEI have seen a period of unprecedented growth for that agency.
Kathy’s clinical practice is with children, adults, couples, and families across a variety of issues including but not limited to stress, family/ couple conflict, anxiety, depression, grief, and parenting. As a person with lived experience, Kathy has a particular clinical interest in assisting individuals and couples experiencing infertility.
“Kathy’s career has left a lasting mark on the entire profession of social work in PEI. Her contribution to improving the lives of islanders deserves the highest recognition. Thank you, for all of your hard work, Kathy,” said Bruce Davison, President of the PEI Association of Social Workers.
