
The Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers (NLCSW) is pleased to announce that the recipient of the Canadian Association of Social Workers Distinguished Service Award for 2022 is Peggy Hatcher MSW RSW. This award celebrates over 40 years of commitment to the social work profession. Throughout this time, Peggy has led changes in systems and organizations while exemplifying strong social work values and ethics.
Since completing her social work education at Memorial University, Peggy has worked in the areas of clinical services, child welfare supervision, program and policy development, human resource management, consulting, private practice, and professional regulation. She has provided field instruction for Memorial University social work students.
Peggy has brought her exceptional facilitation and relationship building skills to numerous programs and services. She has made a significant contribution to the development and advancement of employee assistance programs which have directly impacted the quality of life and work environment for provincial government employees. Peggy has worked with individuals and families directly impacted by global and local disasters and has supported colleagues and volunteers as a member of the St. John’s intervention team during 9-11 and in response to the Cougar Helicopter crash.
Peggy’s volunteer contributions to her community and her profession have been extensive. She has worked with several boards and associations including the NL Employee Assistance Program Association, NL College of Social Workers board of directors, the Canadian Council of Social Work Regulators, the Kiwanis Music Festival and as a longstanding member of the judicial mental health Provincial Review Board.
Peggy is not only a highly respected social worker, her kindness, collegiality, sense of humor and warmth make her an inspiration to all who know her. Social workers in NL offer our congratulations and best wishes.
