As National Social Work Month draws to a close, let us reflect on the profound impact of social workers’ shared values – the Seven Points of Unity that now guide our collective and individual journeys. CASW’s Code of Ethics, Values, and Guiding Principles acts as a roadmap for social workers, laying out the goals we want to achieve through our evolving practice.
From respecting the dignity and worth of all individuals, to championing social justice, to pursuing truth and reconciliation, each value illuminates our path towards a more equitable world. As social workers, we are entrusted with the sacred task of upholding integrity, preserving human relationships, and safeguarding the confidentiality of service users. These values serve as pillars of strength, grounding us in social work’s mission to provide competent, compassionate services.
As National Social Work Month concludes, let us remember that our work is far from over. We must continue to mobilize and lead change to address gender inequality, support the treaty rights of all First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples, eliminate racial discrimination, advocate for 2SLGBTQIA+ rights, and more. Let us continue to harness the power of our shared values to imagine endless possibilities for social work – possibilities that transcend barriers, bridge divides, and create inclusive communities where every voice is heard and every person is valued.
As social workers, we are not just bound by duty, but moved by a collective vision of a world where every individual is seen, heard, and valued. As we embark on the journey ahead, may the spirit of unity and possibility guide us, inspire us, and propel us towards a brighter tomorrow.
Thank you to all social workers for your unwavering dedication, your boundless compassion, and your tireless advocacy. Let us continue to stand together, united in our values, as we work towards a future filled with hope, healing, and possibility for all.
