CASW Honors Justice Murray Sinclair

November 4, 2024 - A former judge and senator, Murray Sinclair was a force of positive change in Canada.

“His life’s work has forever changed Canada, setting the roadmap for reconciliation and demanding ongoing commitments for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples to work together to address the ongoing harms of colonization” notes CASW President, Barb Whitenect.

The legacy of the 2015 Truth and Reconciliation Commission and its 94 Calls to Action will shape Canada’s future, guiding the nation from truth recognition to a meaningful journey of reconciliation that fosters healing, mutual respect, and an inclusive path forward for Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities alike.

For its part, CASW reaffirms its pledge of support to Indigenous communities and organizations in implementing all recommendations. The profession of social work recognizes the very specific role and responsibility it has in supporting the implementation of the TRC recommendations with emphasis on those specific to Child Welfare.

“CASW members stand in awe and remembrance of Murray Sinclair – his life, legacy and impact will reverberate through the generations.”

CASW is a national social work organization dedicated to strengthening the social work profession and advancing issues of social justice.
