On this day in 1926, the constitution for the Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW) was approved. As a result, CASW is today proudly celebrating 85 years of dedication to promoting and strengthening the social work profession in Canada by launching a new website worthy of its strong history.

“CASW is pleased to launch its website that features a refreshed logo and new tools to communicate and connect with social workers from across Canada.” stated CASW President, Morel Caissie. “The new website, akin to the social work profession, is built to evolve with the ever changing realties of our time.”

When CASW became a reality in 1926, it had 197 charter members from across Canada. Thus CASW began with a small membership spread across a broad geographic region with major regional diversities and within a political system characterized by federal-provincial tensions.

“CASW has been instrumental to the growth and development of the social work profession in Canada” stated CASW President, Morel Caissie. “Having had opportunity to engage with social workers from across Canada, I am confident that CASW will continue for another 85 years of impressive activism and strengthening of our profession.”

CASW is a national federation of partner organizations and direct affiliate individual members that has evolved into the national social work voice dedicated to strengthening the social work profession and advocating for social justice.
