The Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW) and the New Brunswick Association of Social Workers (NBASW) are exceptionally pleased to announce that CASW President Morel Caissie has been awarded a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his dedicated service to the social work profession.

For over 38 years Caissie has been a constant advocate for the most vulnerable in our society beginning his professional career as a front line social worker in child protection before taking his retirement from the position of Regional Director for Department of Social Development in New Brunswick.

“Beyond service to individuals and his community, he has chosen to serve the social work profession by engaging in positions of leadership in both NBASW and CASW” states CASW Executive Director, Fred Phelps. “Caissie has mentored generations of social workers to work towards building a more equitable Canada and is most deserving of the recognition of this honour.”

Besides his long and distinguished professional career in the field of social work, Caissie has a strong record of commitment to his community beginning with the establishment of a variety of resources for people with mental and physical disabilities through to founding President of the regional Mental Health Association, being elected school board member as well as town councillor and serving as the Deputy-Mayor for the Town of Grand-Sault/Grand-Falls.

“His dedication to the people of New Brunswick is unparalleled” notes NBASW Executive Director, Miguel Leblanc. “The social work profession will continue to be well served by his passion for social justice and his contributions will have resounding impact for generations.”
