Jewish Family and Child Services
Position Description:

Chief Executive Officer

An opportunity for a Social Services Leader to impact a multi-service agency with a 150-year legacy, a strong provincial presence, and an outstanding community reputation for programs and services.

Jewish Family and Child Service (JF&CS) is a multi-service agency that strengthens and supports individuals, children, families and communities by increasing safety and security, improving mental health and wellness, and reducing the effects of poverty throughout the entire Jewish community of Toronto and York Region. JF&CS is the provincially mandated Children’s Aid Society for Jewish children. Our collective vision is a resilient community where hope, dignity and humanity thrive. With a broad range of wrap-around programs and services that support our clients and our community, JF&CS is seeking a Chief Executive Officer to lead the organization in serving the GTA and York Region communities. We have a solid foundation, an excellent team, and have successfully adapted to navigate the current pandemic  challenges while continuing to serve the needs of our clients.

As the new Chief Executive Officer of JF&CS, you will work collaboratively with the Board of Directors and the senior team to lead the vision, strategy and execution of programs, services and operations, ensuring alignment with the mission and vision of the Agency, and meeting client and community needs—guided by Jewish values, teachings and traditions.

We are seeking an excellent relationship builder and communicator to continue to engage with our external stakeholders, Board, and employees while establishing new partnerships and alliances. As an agency advocate to support the health and welfare of JF&CS programs and services, you will exercise sound judgement while encouraging collective energy and collaboration to deliver on the priorities of the new strategic plan.

You affirm JF&CS’ strong compelling identity by being a spokesperson and continuing to build upon and expand the organizational brand and awareness of the Agency. Leading through service excellence, you will ensure sound fiscal management of resources and compliance with all reporting requirements, lead and support Agency fundraising initiatives, and cultivate donor and stewardship strategies. You will ensure Agency adherence to Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and Part X of the CYFSA rules for the collection, use and disclosure of personal information of individuals while facilitating the effective provision of service. Succession planning and mentorship for the talented and dedicated staff at JF&CS will be a key component of this position.

As the successful candidate, you will bring a strong understanding of Judaism, including knowledge of Jewish traditions, communities and values, complemented by at least 10 years of senior leadership experience in social services organizations and programs. Your experience includes sound clinical practice, progressive client-centred programs and services, and superior management and administrative skills, including strategic and operational planning, human resources and financial management abilities. A graduate degree in a related field is highly preferred.

You are conversant with sound governance practices through work with a Board of Directors, and adept at leading key service and/or client sectors such as child welfare, children’s mental health, domestic violence, or poverty reduction. Additionally, you have demonstrated success in forging strong relationships with key stakeholders, donors and funders including government.

Above all, you are an innovative, compassionate, empathetic and a politically astute executive leader with a strong belief in accountability, quality assurance and evidence-based practices, a passion for serving the community, and a commitment to excellence and continuous improvement. Your ability to win trust and credibility, rally others around a shared vision, and deliver planned results will drive your effectiveness in this role.
