Professional Development

As a practicing RSW, you are responsible for continuous learning to keep up the knowledge and skills required to perform in your area(s) of practice. Regulatory organizations are required by law to monitor compliance and determine eligibility of professional development activities that you undertake. Generally a variety of activities relevant to an RSW’s field of work and position are accepted.

Canadian Association of Social Workers Statement on Continuing Education (1994)

Background :

In June, 1992 the Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW) conducted a National Consultation on Continuing Education, in conjunction with its Delegate Assembly being held in Saint John, New Brunswick.  The consultation used as its major reference point the documents produced by the continuing Education Project initiated in 1986, under joint sponsorship with the Canadian Association of Schools of Social Work.
