Crystal Chan
Crystal has worked in government organizations and non profit agencies throughout her career. She previously provided support to workers in their employment-related concerns by representing them in their employment standards complaints, human rights complaints, employment insurance claims, etc. She also served as a board member with the Calgary Chinese Community Services Association and is passionate about building community. As a board member of the Global Justice Committee with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), she advocated for the just treatment of temporary foreign workers and was a presenter at the CUPE Alberta Convention.
Crystal is currently an MSW student with the University of Calgary. When she's not in class, she is working at the City of Calgary as a Fair Entry Administrator and at the Alberta Children's Hospital as a Family Support Specialist.
Shibao Guo
Dr. Shibao Guo is Professor at the Werklund School of Education, University of Calgary. Over the past twenty years as a transnational academic and scholar, Dr. Guo has developed research expertise in the areas of transnational migration, diaspora studies, Chinese immigrants in Canada, ethnic and race relations, and comparative and international education. Dr. Guo’s research has been funded by a number of organizations, including the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada; Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada; Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada; International Organization for Migration; and Education International. He has numerous publications including books, journal articles, and book chapters. His latest books include: Decolonising lifelong learning in the context of transnational migration (Routledge, 2020), Immigration, racial and ethnic studies in 150 years of Canada: Retrospects and prospects (Brill|Sense, 2018). He is former president of Canadian Ethnic Studies Association (CESA) and the Comparative and International Education Society of Canada (CIESC). Currently he is co-editor of Canadian Ethnic Studies and two book series for Brill|Sense Publishers: Transnational Migration and Education and Spotlight on China.
Siu Ming Kwok
Siu Ming Kwok is a social work professor at University of Calgary and currently serving as the academic director of the School of Public Policy at the same university. Additionally, he is the current President of Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) and President of Canadian Council of Social Work Regulators (CCSWR).
In his career, he has received numerous research and teaching awards, invited to present at national and international conferences as a keynote and panelist member, and has testified at the Canadian Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights on the topic of visible minorities and the criminal justice system.
Professor Kwok has been involved in practice, research and social work teaching for 35 years. His main research areas are criminal justice system and mental, social policy and municipal government, youth mental health, and social work regulations.
Teresa Woo-Paw
Teresa is a tireless advocate for diversity, social inclusion and active civic participation for over 40 years. She is known for her ability in bringing diverse people together to joint efforts, break new grounds and create bigger impacts in society.
She is the first Canadian woman of Asian descent elected to the Calgary Board of Education (1995-2000), the Alberta Legislature and Cabinet Minister in Alberta (2008-2015).
Teresa holds a bachelor of arts degree in social work from the University of Calgary. She founded and built eight non-profit entities over a span of 40 plus years including DiverseCities [Calgary Chinese Community Service Association]. She has worked with almost 100 organizations in Canada.
Teresa received Governor in Council appointment and is the Chair of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation since 2018. She is the Founder and Chair of ACCT Foundation and created the Inspire to Lead Chinese Canadian Leaders’ Summit and the Aspire to Act Leadership Training Program. In response to Anti-Asian racism Teresa created the Asia Canadians Together -ACT2EndRacism Network. Teresa is founder and current Co-Chair of Asian Heritage Foundation; Board member of Calgary Arts Foundation; City of Calgary-Tomorrow’s Chinatown and Lougheed House Advisory Committees.
