All social workers congratulate Patsy George on recently being named to the Order of Canada. Patsy, currently of British Columbia, has worked in all regions of the country. She has a distinguished career in social work and is particularly known for work as a social advocate and in community development.

Patsy was a founding member of the Vancouver Society of Immigrant Women and has been vice-president of the National Organization of Immigrant and Visible Minority Women as well as chair and founding member of the Pacific Immigrant Resources Society. She also served as president of the BC Association of Social Workers and served two different terms on the CASW Board, representing Nova Scotia in the 1970s and BC in the 1980s. She was awarded the CASW Distinguished Service Award in 1992 and is a member of the Order of BC. Currently, Patsy is a volunteer director of the Stephen Lewis Foundation.
According to Bob Kissner, BC representative to CASW, “Patsy is a person of calm, gracious, and active strength with firm values and an ability to build cohesion and cooperation towards common goals. It is fitting recognition.”
