"Social Work and Primary Care: A Vision for the Path Forward," highlights the crucial role social workers play in primary care. This pivotal document outlines strategic recommendations for more fully integrating and leveraging social workers on healthcare teams, aiming to enhance patient care, tackle the mental health crisis, and offer a fiscally responsible approach to care. With federal support, this vision could redefine primary care across Canada.
The report is a key component of the Creating a National Vision and Building Capacity for the Role of Social Work in Primary Care project, spearheaded by Dr. Rachelle Ashcroft and Dr. Keith Adamson from the University of Toronto. This project, funded by the Team Primary Care – Training for Transformation Initiative, also includes a comprehensive six-module e-learning program designed to deepen understanding and implementation of social work in primary care.
