CASW Thrilled to welcome back the Alberta College of Social Workers

OTTAWA, ON – April 1, 2016 -- Today the Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW) is delighted to welcome the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) back into full partnership in the CASW national federation. ACSW has not been a provincial partner in the CASW federation since March 31, 2011.

“Unity is the strength that drives our national professional voice and today this voice has been exponentially strengthened by welcoming back the members of ACSW into our national federation,” stated CASW President, Morel Caissie.

CASW’s Highest Honour: The Glenn Drover National Award for Outstanding Service

(Ottawa, Ontario) March 23, 2016 – The Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW) has renamed its highest honour to The Glenn Drover National Award for Outstanding Service. Previously titled The CASW National Award for Outstanding Service, the award has been renamed in honour and in memory of the 2016 recipient, Dr. Glenn Drover.

CASW Deeply Encouraged by Dialogue on Guaranteed Income

CASW Applauds Human Rights Tribunal Ruling Acknowledging Discrimination of First Nations Children and Communities

OTTAWA, ON – January 26, 2016 - The Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW) applauds the decision to acknowledge the federal government’s egregious discrimination of First Nations children by underfunding child welfare on reserves.  Today’s Human Rights Tribunal ruling in favor of the Assembly of First Nations and the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society is a major victory in the fight against inequity in Canada.

CASW Applauds Federal Government’s Action to End Violence against Children

Ottawa, ON – December 21, 2015 - The Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW) applauds the Liberal Government’s promise to repeal Section 43 of the Criminal Code, as called for by the Truth and Reconciliation Report’s Recommendations. Sometimes referred to as the “Spanking Law,” Section 43 granted parents and care givers the legal right to spank or strike children under certain conditions.
